When my wife and I moved to Smithfield in 2014, the strength of the school system was one of the biggest reasons we chose this community. As we settled in, started our family, and became more familiar with Smithfield Public Schools, we grew increasingly concerned about the downward trajectory in educational quality. We saw dedicated, talented educators working hard every day, but we also saw a lack of consistent support from Town leadership.
Because I wanted all Smithfield children — not just my own — to receive the level of education that drew us here, I joined the Budget and Financial Review Board. I wanted to understand how our tax dollars were being allocated and to contribute to a more responsible, transparent process.
Now in my second year on the BFRB, and serving as Chair, I’ve gained a deeper appreciation for how complex municipal operations are and how important it is for residents to have clear, accessible insight into how decisions are made. That experience is a major reason I am seeking a seat on the Town Council. I believe Smithfield Public Schools have been systematically under‑supported by elected officials, and that this trend has real consequences for families, educators, and the long‑term health of our community.
I’ve compiled financial data to help residents understand the issue more clearly. I encourage everyone to review the information and stay engaged as we approach November 3.
